SSN 680 Plan of the Day
- Brad Williamson
I trust everyone has had a truly enjoyable Christmas holiday and is now enjoying a little peace and quiet after the December rush to get ready for Christmas. Now that things are slowing back to normal, perhaps we can get on with a little reunion planning.
In the meantime, check out the new photos of the boat in Adak, and new articles in the Logroom Archives. Our newest contributor, Dennis Carroll, has sent the Bates Welcome Aboard booklet, and the front page of the Sasebo, Japan newspaper, from 1982 which features a photo of the Bates pulling into the harbor. Thanks for contributing, Dennis!

December 16th has been a rough day for the site. Intermittent problems plagued us all day which might explain why you were having trouble accessing the site. Finally, we took the server off-line completely, as a result, the site was down for an hour or so.
As of 2150 EST it was back up. Everything seems to be back in order now so you shouldn't have any problems. If you do, please report them to the Site Administrator at admin (at) ssn-680.org.

Check out the Scuttlebutt in the Operational Schedule forum - I added some threads about our schedule between 81 and 85. See if you can remember anything regarding operations, deployments, overhauls and liberty ports and add your info as replies to the threads. If we ever get it hammered out, I'll make it a permanent part of the site.I added a new set of photos from Diego Garcia in 1985, I think, my second visit there. More will follow as time allows.

We have places for photos of yourself on the site. By this, I mean a photo that identifies you, like your driver's license or passport photos, as opposed to the ones we took of each other on liberty, or the photo of you getting your dolphins pinned on.
First, there is the photo that you use to identify you on the site, that shows up in the Scuttlebutt forum and is your User Image on your User Profile. This is also called your avatar. To change this image, or to add one, go the the Sailing List and click on your name, or click on your name in the Current Watchsection, or click on Your Profile in the Watch Quarter and Station Bill. Your user profile will open.

Two new sections have been added today: Logroom >> Archives, and Photos >> Misc.
Archives is our repository for historical documents that tell the story of the William H. Bates. Newspaper clippings, magazine articles, and other relevant documents will go here.
The Misc. Photos section holds photographs relevant to our history and understanding of the Bates, but not necessarily of the Bates. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. I think you'll find it interesting.
