Everybody that made a Westpac stop in Subic Bay remembers Grande Island. With a history going back to the Spanish-American war and before, Grande Island was a island garrison in World War II, complete with ten-inch and six-inch guns from the Watervliet Arsenal, a rest and recreation facility for Viet Nam era combatants, and quite the tropical getaway for those of us that sailed in the '80's.
While undated, this handbook probably hailed from the fall or winter of 1982, on my first Westpac, and is a pleasant overview of the Grande Island that I remember, that ceased to exist when the U.S. Navy surrendered its lease on Subic Bay Naval Shipyard and surrounding facilities.
