SSN 680 - Launching Brochure - 11 DEC 1971
Prepared for the December 11, 1971 launching of the USS WILLIAM H. BATES (SSN 680) in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where she was being constructed by the Ingalls Nuclear Shipbuilding division of Litton Industries.

SSN 680 - Commissioning Brochure - 5 MAY 1973
Prepared for the May 5, 1973 commissioning of the USS William H. Bates, this booklet would become the precursor for the Welcome Aboard booklets provided by each subsequent Commanding Officer. What makes the Commissioning Booklet unique is the inclusion of photographs of the entire crew! (Brad Williamson)

SSN 680 - Welcome Aboard Brochure - CDR Arthur - 1972-1975
The Yeoman onboard the Bates had these brochures available for riders without submarine experience, like dependents, and technical support people. I imagine the content was somewhat less than adequate for easing the concerns of the first-timer. (Brad Williamson)
SSN 680 - Change of Command - Uplinger/Trautman - 15 AUG 1985
On 15 AUG 1985, the ship's company mustered east of the flagpole in the main parking lot at SUBASE Point Loma to hear the orders read as CDR Uplinger was relieved as CO of the USS WILLIAM H. BATES (SSN 680) by CDR Trautman.
Shortly after the crew presented CDR Uplinger with a retirement gift, a custom hunting rifle to use in the wilds of Michigan as he started his leisure years.
