, Chatting with Ralph Stroede the other day I realized that it had been a while since I brought you up-to-date on the USS HADDO (SSN 604) website, but there is so much evolving on at coldwarboats.org that it can be difficult to squeeze out a Familygram or a Facebook post. Most of you know that Ralph has passed the torch for the Haddo website to the Cold War Boats Association, and I’m currently acting site lead, which means Haddo updates are competing against about 500 other boat/support sites for attention. Nonetheless, here’s the latest, in a nutshell: - Ralph let me know that ETCM(SS) John 'Jack' Taylor, Jr., one of Haddo's own plankowners, has shipped his oars as of 16 DEC 23. His obituary and other info, as well as many other shipmates, can be found on the the 604's Eternal Patrol list.
- Personnel Reports for both officers and enlisted from 1962 and 1963 are available in The Logroom >> Archives >> Personnel Reports. One of our goals is to be the largest, most easily accessible repository of boat information, including Personnel Reports and Deck Logs outside of the National Archives, and we are well on our way there.
- Reunion photos from eight, count 'em, eight Haddo reunions can be found at The Reunions >> Past Reunions for those reunions between 2000 and 2018. We could use your help identifying shipmates and putting namest to faces, so log in, check out the photos, and leave comments with the relevant information - you are the only ones that know - no one else can do this.
- We have all the ship's Deck Logs from commissioning in 1964 to 1970 - not that they make interesting reading, but there is a wealth of information there about where, when, who, what, etc. (as long as it wasn't classified!) Find them in the Logroom >> Archives >> Deck Logs.
- A small collection of USS HADDO (SSN 604) covers (stamps, not hats) and cachets, for those of you interested in philately, cachet collecting, and ship cancellations related to the Haddo - The Logroom >> Archives >> The Ship’s Post Office.
- I've been pulling your Sea Stories out of the old Haddo newsletters, and adding them to the Sea Stories collection which can be found in The Boat >> Crews Mess >> Sea Stories. We have about 15–20 so far, with many more to come. Speaking of old newsletters, you can find the collection of old, meaning pre-coldwarboats.org newsletters in the Ship's Office - The Boat >> Ship's Office >> USS HADDO Newsletters. There are more than 40 if I recall correctly.
By the way, we have added a feature that makes it easy for you to invite shipmates to join you on the USS HADDO (SSN 604) website at coldwarboats.org. You can find the Invite Shipmates tab at the top of your user profile - simply click on your name anywhere it appears - usually in the Current Watchsection module in the upper right column, and you will be able to send invites to your friends, family, and shipmates by email or posting on Facebook. You can also get updates to all boats on coldwarboats.org by following The Cold War Boats Association/joining the Cold War Boats Site Information group on Facebook. That’s all for now - visit the site - log in and update your profile - join a Crow & Anchor chat group - comment on photos - contact me if you have questions, need help, or have photos/stories/documents you’d like to share on the 604 site, as well as any other boat. Wishing each of you a peaceful and quiet New Year! ~ Brad Williamson | | |
