RASH STATEMENT LOG (RSL), VOLUME 6
The Rash Statement Log or RSL was a small book, easily concealable, filled with the collectively amassed rash
statements heard and recorded throughout the boat which truly characterizes life on-board a Cold War submarine. To have your verbal outburst recorded for posterity in the RSL was either a great honor or persistently horrific embarrassment, depending on your actual words and the mood of your shipmates.
Carefully hidden, away from the inquisitive and prying eyes of officers, chiefs, and gentlemen, the Rash Statement Log ensured that no pithy exclamation, however salty or embarrassing, escaped preservation; to be memorialized and savored, over and over again, as we re-lived our boat history during those long and tedious hours on mission and away from home.
Volume 6 came into existence on or about 25 NOV 1983, shortly after the disappearance of RSL Volume 5, and the departure and discharge of nuke MM1(SS) David McConnell. Coincidence? We think not, making us wonder exactly which of Dave's rash statements had made it into Volume 5.
The Rash Statement Log (RSL), Volume 6, was spirited away from the boat by ET1(SS) Dennis Carroll, Logroom Yeoman and RC Div Repair Parts Petty Officer, when he departed and separated in the mid-80s. It remained undisturbed, un-located and unmolested (we presume) for nearly 36 years until Dennis revealed its existence, and contributed it to the custody of the Cold War Boats Association for your enjoyment and recollecting pleasure. It is posted here in all its former glory courtesy of Dennis Carroll.
